10 Fundamentals: Behind the Scene

The surprising lessons I’ve learned coaching 70+ founders.

I’m in the middle of a 10-day LinkedIn series about the fundamentals every scaling founder should master.

Three posts are live. Seven more are coming.

For over 13 years, I’ve built myself through meditation, journaling, weightlifting, and yoga. When life threw a curveball and I had to work relentlessly for 3 years straight, I survived because I was built strong.

Building and exiting two businesses, then coaching founders for the last 3 years, has shaped everything I coach on now.

These fundamentals are the essence of all this work.

The response so far has been intense. Founders messaging me: “This is exactly where I struggle.

So in this edition, I wanted to pull back the curtain…

Why these 10 fundamentals?

Here’s what I didn’t include: Vision. Strategy. Product-market fit.

Not because they don’t matter. Because if you’re reading CEO Mastery, you already have them in some shape or form.

These 10 fundamentals are specifically for the scaling phase. The messy middle between “we have something that works” and “we’ve built something that lasts.

I chose fundamentals that:

  • Get ignored because they seem “soft” (Courage, Presence, Fitness)
  • Get misunderstood despite being so “obvious” (Cash, Numbers)
  • Sound simple, but break companies when executed wrong (Hire, Fire, Scale)

Most importantly: These are the gaps I see repeatedly in my 1:1 coaching.

Brilliant founders with INR 50 Cr revenue who can’t make decisions. Technical geniuses who’ve built no systems. Visionaries burning out because they see fitness as optional.

The pattern is clear. And the fact is: You can’t outsource these fundamentals.

You can hire a CFO to manage cash. But YOU need to understand cashflow well enough to make strategic calls.

You can hire an HR head. But YOU need to master hiring and firing because those decisions shape everything.

You can build a great product. But without presence and fitness, you’ll break before the company succeeds.

Every fundamental I have shared comes with a practical insight and a mini-framework. Because knowledge is not enough, implementation is required.

What I'm learning as I write them

Three things are becoming clear:

1. The fundamentals interact

Cash (Fundamental 3) gives you decision-making power (Fundamental 2).
Presence (Fundamental 6) amplifies or undermines everything from Fundamental 1-5.
Fitness (Fundamental 10) is the foundation under all 9.

They’re not a checklist. They’re a living system.

2. Most founders know, but few do

The issue isn’t awareness. Its execution.

Everyone knows they should fire faster. Few do.
Everyone knows cash matters. Few track it weekly.
Everyone knows fitness is important. Few prioritize it.

The gap between knowing and doing? That’s where coaching lives.

3. Timing matters

You need different fundamentals at different stages.

Early stage: Courage, Decisions, Cash dominate.
Growth stage: Hire, Scale, Adapt become critical.
Mature stage: Numbers and Presence determine longevity.

But Fitness? That’s foundational at every stage.

Which fundamental surprises me most in coaching?

PRESENCE (Fundamental 6).

Founders understand it intellectually. But they massively underestimate their own impact.

I ask founders: “Do people feel calm or anxious around you?” Most say: “Calm, I think?”

Then I talk to their teams.

Most see their founders as “moody” and “unpredictable”. People walk on eggshells, unsure which version of their leader they’ll face that day..

The disconnect is huge.

Your internal state IS your company’s cultural weather system. At scale, you can’t fake calm. You have to BE calm.

Most founders don’t work on fundamentals and miss out on building a solid foundation. Then they wonder why their teams are anxious, their decisions are poor, and their culture is toxic.

Book: The Godfather

Some lessons don’t come from business books.
They come from stories that reveal human nature.

The Godfather is one of them.
Behind the drama is a masterclass in power, patience, and governance.

If rockets can be standardized, so can your business

In 2025, SpaceX launched 165 rockets. One every 2.2 days. The rest of the world combined launched 164. More launches than every space agency, every government, every competitor on Earth put together.  In 2020, they launched 26 rockets. Five years later, that number had increased sixfold.  They are now the

My Take On Delegation

Is there anything left to say about delegation? Honestly, I asked myself that before writing this. Every leadership book covers it. Every podcast mentions it. The advice is everywhere. And yet. Week after week, I watch capable founders slow their own growth because they can’t bring themselves to delegate. So
